Having used Tableau yesterday I saw some similarities to Polaris in layout and feel. One major difference however is that it only deals with rational databases whereas Tableau can make use of Excel data sets? I'm wondering why this is so, as I see many advantages of also incorporating Excel data set visualization capabilities.

The chapter covers a lot of material when it comes to visualization. A point of interest I had initially with visualization was if there is a point of comparison when we take into account people’s different preferences when it comes to learning or making sense of any sort of material. Some people are auditory learners compared to visual learners. According to Fleming's VARK model (Wikipedia) there are 4 different types. I was wondering how this could influence the effectiveness of using visualization in the light of this theory. Will individuals in a group presented with visualized data each benefit the same amount?
